My Everyday Vegan Hair Products

As someone with hair past my waist (and way too many bad experiences at the hairdressers), I try to treat my long locks as well as I possibly can to reduce the need for a drastic cut. Unfortunately, because I use heat on it almost every day, my hair requires a lot of love!

Of course, everyones hair type is different. Personally, mine is quite fine, but there’s a lot of it. It gets oily at the roots but really dry at the ends.

After trying many different shampoos, treatments and conditioners over the years, I’ve narrowed my favourites down to a select few that work true wonders on my hair.

1. Organic Care Normal Balance Shampoo – leaves my hair feeling clean and light.
2. Hello Hair Hydrating Mask – this mask is incredible! It uses natural oils to deep condition your hair and make it silky smooth. I use this a couple times a week.
3. Organic Care Normal Balance Conditioner – the best daily conditioner I’ve used… it makes the ends of my hair look much healthier and doesn’t weigh it down.

All three of these products are vegan, cruelty free, and budget friendly! If you try them out, I hope you love them as much as I do!

Vegan Skincare Favourites

Finding the perfect skincare is like finding a needle in a haystack – it’s going to take a very long time, and you can bet there’ll be a whole lot of trial and error.

I always take into consideration a few things:
budget: how much is it compared to similar products, and is it worth the spend? If I fall in love with it, am I willing to pay this much every time I need to repurchase?
quality: does it have good reviews? Does it work well? How does it make my skin feel?
ingredients: is it full of chemicals or natural ingredients? Is it cruelty free/vegan?

I’ve tried A LOT of products over the years, and these are the ones I’m loving at the moment:

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

1. CROP Double Sided Facial Wipes – I’ve tested a few different natural brands of makeup wipes, and these are hands down my favourite. One side is smooth and the other uses micro bead technology to exfoliate. The ingredients are 95% natural, with no animal products or testing.

2. Frank Body Coconut & Grapeseed Coffee Scrub – I’ve already written a review of the Original Frank scrub, so I’ll keep it short… this scrub is a holy grail product for me! I highly recommend it to keep your bod silky smooth.

3. Eco Tan Winter Skin – this gradual tanner uses organic and natural ingredients to achieve a build able and even tan. It moisturises the skin beautifully and has a pleasant scent.

4. essano Rosehip Regenerating Facial Moisturiser – one of my most loved products! Containing organic rosehip oil, jojoba oil and shea butter, it keep your skin smooth without feeling greasy.

5. coconut oil – arguably the best natural skincare solution you can buy! Melt it in your hands and use as a full body moisturiser before bed. It also works wonders as a deep conditioner!

6. Simple Eye Make-up Remover – easily my favourite make-up remover! It takes off regular and waterproof mascara, using natural and gentle ingredients.

7. Australian Pure Beauty Sensitive Face Wash – I’ve used many face cleansers that are harsh and drying on the skin, and some that don’t seem to work at all. This one is effective and soothing, containing 98% natural and plant based ingredients. The bottle itself is even 100% plant derived and recyclable!

If you’re looking for a natural, budget friendly and good quality skincare alternative, I hope this has given you a good place to start!

Arbonne Skincare and Cosmetics

Finding the right foundation is always a challenge.

You have to find the right colour, the right formula for your skin type, and with makeup prices as high as they are in Australia, you don’t want to try something new only to hate it.

I’ve been wearing Revlon foundation for years – they have great colour options for women with fair skin, and the formulas are always great. But something I’ve become more aware of is animal testing within the cosmetic industry, and there’s not a lot of quality options out there that are cruelty free. Those that advertise as vegan or cruelty free are often sold in China, where brands are legally required to have their products tested on animals by a third party.

As a transitioning vegan, I’m eating all vegan food, and slowly making vegan choices in other areas of my life. So as I found myself running out of my Revlon foundation, I started looking into a vegan alternative, and found Arbonne. The all-natural and high quality brand is a dream come true.

After speaking to a consultant over Facebook, I attended an Arbonne party in my area (for free!), where I was colour matched and got to try a bunch of products. The skincare lines are to die for, and the makeup is stunning – and all the best quality. It’s a little pricey, but SO worth it.

I bought the Makeup Primer ($51) and the Perfecting Liquid Foundation in ‘Fair’ ($56).

The primer gives you a super smooth base to work with, containing ingredients such as hyaluronic filling spheres, green tea leaf extract and grape seed extract. The foundation gives the most flawless yet natural finish I’ve ever seen, with SPF 15 and a multitude of colours to choose from.

Needless to say, I’m ecstatic that I’ve found a new makeup base that I can rely on and feel truly good about!

LUSH Cosmetics

There’s nothing more satisfying to me after a long day, a big workout or a stressful week than taking a long hot bath with some Epsom salts and one of my favourite products from LUSH Cosmetics.

If you’ve never heard of LUSH before, they are a conscious company that sells handmade beauty products. Their range includes everything from skincare, bath, shower, hair, perfume and makeup, and all are created with a difference. All products are 100% vegetarian (a lot are vegan as well) and ethically sourced, 46% are free of packaging (and any wrappings are recyclable), many of the ingredients are organic, and they use absolutely no animal testing. To add to this, the company supports various campaigns and charities. I love that LUSH is a brand you can feel good about purchasing.

Now I understand that sometimes ethical and natural beauty products can just be plain bad, whether it’s the smell, texture, or the fact that they don’t actually work! But LUSH is different. Of course, everyone has different preferences when it comes to the scent of a product, but the variety is so large that there is bound to be something to satisfy your senses and mood. As for quality – in my experience, almost everything I’ve tried has worked for me, and those that didn’t have received rave reviews from people with a different skin type. When you walk into a LUSH store, you can try almost every product, and the employees are on-hand to help you with any questions and offer advice. But I honestly think it’s hard to go wrong, regardless of what you buy!

Every purchase comes with a Fresh Matters magazine, which is a catalogue of products combined with articles relating to the LUSH values, such as fair trade, environmental issues, and animal cruelty.

Here are a few of the products I picked up on my last visit to LUSH:

From left to right, starting at the top…

The Fizzbanger Bath Ballistic smells as bright as it looks. It’s described as a toffee apple for your bath! It contains citric acid, which gives it quite a tangy scent, but the cinnamon leaf oil adds a subtle warmth. The addition of popping candy in the centre makes your bath experience rejuvenating! It retails for $5.95, which I think is a really reasonable price, and one of the reasons bath bombs are a personal LUSH favourite.

The Creamy Candy Bubble Bar is a deliciously sweet and feminine combination of vanilla, almond oil and cocoa butter that softens the skin and takes relaxation to a whole new level. The mounds of bubbles that come from this little piece of happiness will make you smile (plus, how cute is the little flower?!). Retailing at $8.50 it’s a little pricey for the size, but for the feeling of taking a bath in a frothy vanilla hot chocolate with pink marshmallows, it’s totally worth it.

The Comforter Bubble Bar is hands down my favourite LUSH product – and that’s a big statement! From the first time I tried it, I fell utterly in love, and I now buy it whenever I go in store. True to its name, this bubble bar feels like a warm hug from a loved one, a cosy bed on a cold night, a hot cup of tea, and that moment of pure relaxation you experience right before falling asleep. The rich scent of blackcurrant immerses you in a moment of bliss as you’re surrounded by a ridiculous amount of bubbles. Although it retails for $10.50, you can break chunks off and get at least five baths out of it, if not more! Trust me – if you’re going to try one thing from LUSH, make it The Comforter.

The Yuzu and Cocoa Bubbleroon is another personal favourite. The Bubbleroons are a cute little bubble bar in the shape of a macaroon, and soften your skin with a number of oils. This one smells bright, happy and refreshing – perfect if you need a bit of a pick-me-up. It may look small, but you can break it into two and get double the use out of it, and as with all the bubble bars, it makes more bubbles than you expect! The Yuzu retails for $6.50.

The Twilight Bath Ballistic is the ultimate source of relaxation. With the scents of lavender, ylang ylang and ovaltine, it gives your bath a gentle warmth that will help you on your way to the land of nod. The combination of swirling colours and glitter recreates the essence of twilight, when the sun begins to set and the sky is painted in vibrant colours, giving you a feeling pure bliss. The combination of oils softens and moisturises your skin – all for a very reasonable $5.95. Purchase this one in store, as it frequently sells out online!

I hope you do try some products from LUSH or even give something as a gift – it tends to give people feelings of happiness and warmth! And if you do purchase something, you can do so knowing that you’re contributing to a more conscious world!

Frank Body’s Original Coffee Scrub

There are many things I love to do with my time, but treating myself to a relaxing at-home spa treatment is easily one of my favourites. Frank Body’s Original Coffee Scrub takes the experience to a whole new level of bliss.

Unsurprisingly, I discovered this scrub when trawling through my Instagram feed. As a passionate lover of all things beauty related, I did some quick research on the brand and then clicked ‘add to cart’ with lightning speed!

There are two scrubs to choose from: Original or Coconut & Grapeseed. I decided to choose the original before trying the coconut because it’s cheaper ($14.95 vs. $17.95), but now that I’ve tried it I can’t wait to buy the second! The scrub claims to target cellulite, stretch marks, psoriasis, varicose veins, eczema and acne with roasted and ground arabica coffee beans, brown sugar and sea salt. It also aims to moisturize and tone with a combination of almond oil, orange essence and vitamin E.

The scrub has the appearance and smell of ground coffee, but the scent of orange and almond is definitely apparent, giving it a hint of sweetness. Because the scrub is so loose, it has to be applied in the shower (be warned – it gets messy!). Personally I don’t mind the mess.. if anything I think it adds to the fun! My only gripe is the amount of product wasted when you apply it. However, I found that using small handfuls at a time helped to reduce this problem. The instructions on the back of the packet are to apply the scrub with circular motions to damp skin, then leave for 5-10 minutes before rinsing.

The results? After using the scrub ONCE, my skin was as smooth as a baby’s bottom! After just one use, my skin looked healthy, rejuvenated and smelled incredible!

I will repurchase this scrub without a doubt, and I honestly recommend it to everyone! This is one of those lucky finds that will capture your heart and refuse to let go.
